Cross Browser DHTML Modal Dialogs For Web Apps
The subModal works by placing a semi-transparent div over the browser, blocking access to the content below while still providing visibility. This maintains state and doesn’t make someone feel disoriented or lost by moving them completely to another page. Their frame of reference is kept while allowing them to perform a new task (usually closely associated with the content below).
Lightbox using iFrames instead of AJAX
Particle tree's hack of Lightbox allows other content besides images to be put into a Lightbox, but it uses AJAX to pull the content into the box. For my purposes this is overkill because an AJAX call is loading an iFrame which results in 2 HTTP requests and for forms inside a lightbox this won't function the way I want. I want the form to act separately from the current page so the user will not be redirected when the form is submitted. To me this gives the UI a smoother feel.
DHTML modal dialog script
This script displays a modal message at the center of the screen. All other page controls are disabled until the message is closed. You can choose between displaying static content inside the message box or content from an external file.
Prototype Window Class
This class is based on Prototype. The code is inspired by the powerful script.aculo.us library. You can even use all script.aculo.us effects to show and hide windows if you include effects.js file , but it's not mandatory.
It has been tested on Safari, Camino, Firefox and IE6.
